Trail World Championships
Lake Annecy, France
Congratulations to our Fury Ford Fourways Dealer Principal, Jock Green, who recently represented South Africa at the Trail Running World Championships at Lake Annecy, France. He was one of 5 elite trail runners (men) selected to represent South Africa at the event. The race was 85km long, with a gruelling 5300m of vertical gain and descent. Jock completed the course in 10:16:36 finishing in 59th position.
Jock is the first South African to represent South Africa at both running and cycling. He ran competitively at a school and provincial level and his childhood dream at the time was to represent South Africa at this discipline. At the age of 17, Jock decided to trade his running talent in for a new found cycling talent, resulting in him pursuing a 16-year career as a professional cyclist. Jock rode for the National Cycling Team from 1996 – 2006. He captained the South African Cycling Team at the All African Games in Abuja, Nigeria, as well as at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia. Jock is a 2 times SA Road Cycling Champion and has won over 160 races during his cycling career.
Jock’s remaining goals for the 2015 season are the Cape Town Ultra and Salomon Skyrun – both 100km events. In 2016, he hopes to conquer UTMB (Ultra Trail Mont-Blanc), arguably the toughest trail race in the world. The course covers some 167km with 10 000m of vertical gain.
